Joanne Miguel, born and raised in Manila, Philippines, moved to the U.S.A. at age 17 in 1991. A self-taught artist, Joanne considers her work as "Raw Expressions" -- also the title of her first exhibit at the Elizabeth Public Library in Elizabeth, NJ, which she also brought to the Sweet Dreams Cafe in Madison, NJ. Joanne states, "I started really getting into painting when I was a junior in high school. My aunt from the States sent me a Prang paint set and it was the best thing I ever received at that time. When I finally came to the U.S. and got my very first paycheck from working at a McDonald's , I bought myself another one of that same paint set. . . and I started creating from there. Today, I splurge on professional quality paint and brushes, but it's not so much about the materials. It feels simultaneously relaxing and riveting to watch something emerge from a blank canvas. It always takes me back to my early days of painting."
Joanne has a B.A in Communications from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ, a Certificate in FilmMaking from the New York Film Academy, and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ. Joanne uses the left side of her brain working as a Product Management Director in the ad-tech industry.
